[Blog]: How to Break Generational Curses Forever

Generational curses are a mindset that keeps many families down. Some even go as far as to label it as a spiritual attack. In this article, my focus is not spiritual. Instead, I want to address what holds us back and what we can do about it.

Growing up, I heard people talk about family curses. They would say that they were heavy drinkers because of their parents. Others blame their family for being poor. I believed what they said until life taught me differently. Although I don't deny the power of being sucked into this mindset, we can choose a different path.

Whom you let yourself become is totally up to you, no one else. The late John Wooden said, "Be more concerned with your character than your reputation because your character is what you are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

It may be time to turn our attention to investing in our future and not focus on the failure of others. One way to break the curses (If they even exist) is to read more widely. For instance, you could start reading a book for just 15 minutes. Then, as you read, look up any books the author mentions. I used this strategy, and it worked. The goal is to break ignorance using education.

It doesn't matter who didn't go to college; what's stopping you? Look for grants or scholarship programs to help you fulfill your goals. Would you like to purchase your first home? Consider purchasing a Duplex and having a rental help you pay the mortgage note. Then, in five years, refinance it and use the money to buy your dream home (find a way to succeed).

Maybe it's time to focus on self-confidence instead of saying you are dumb or ignorant. My coach, Dr. Keith Johnson, said, "Failure happens when we give it consent." Also, the late Zig Ziglar said, "A failure is an event, not a person." You have the potential to improve your life and pass it on to the next generation.

The more you take action, you do not have time to discuss generation curses. Instead, your focus is the vision for future heirs. Let's get started on your family vision.
